A mobile SIP: IP mobility support using SIP

Published: 31 January 2008 Publication History

Abstract

Mobile IP has been around for some time but has yet to make a major impact. This is due partly to the infrastructure set-up required. In this paper, we describe Mobile SIP (MSIP), which uses the widely deployed SIP server together with an innovative IP-to-IP address mapping scheme, to provide terminal mobility. From our analysis, we show that MSIP is much more efficient than Mobile IP in terms of hop count as well as overhead.
