William Lee Vroman OBITUARY

William Lee “Bill” Vroman, 78, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2024, with his wife by his side. He fought a courageous 18-year battle with Stage IV non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and was in hospice care at Westminster Canterbury at the time of his death. He was born on January 11, 1946, in Pontiac, MI. He was the only child of William and Theresa Vroman and is survived by his wife of 56 years, Claudia, and children, David Lee Vroman (Carli), Sarah Vroman Senn (Lisa), and granddaughters Cassie Vroman, Phoenix Alexander and Savannah Vroman.

Bill served 3 years active duty in the Army, stationed at Ft. Story, and later 5 more years in the Army Reserves where he reached the rank of Captain. He was proud of his service to his country.

He attended Wentworth Military Academy, Eastern Michigan University and Virginia Tech. He enjoyed a 30-year career with the Virginia Beach Public School System where he served as principal of North Landing Elem., Holland Elem., Cooke Elem. and Princess Anne Elem. He also served as Assistant to the Deputy Superintendent and spent the 5 years prior to his retirement in Human Resources. After retiring, he worked part-time for the Parks and Recreation Department.

Bill will be remembered for his high energy and exceptional organizational skills. He loved sports, both as a participant and a spectator, but most of all, he loved his family.

Although he lived in Virginia for most of his adult life, he never lost his affection for his home state of Michigan. He will be deeply missed by his family, his childhood friends and family from Michigan and friends, neighbors, travel companions and golf buddies in Virginia. Bill was friendly and outgoing; he never knew a stranger.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or a charity of your choice.
