Plane Jane went to the VMAs dressed as Chappell Roan: 'I wanted to redeem myself'

The RuPaul's Drag Race star is seeking a ru-demption from the Chappell Roan fandom, she tells Out on the VMAs red carpet.

The 2024 Video Music Awards are already underway on MTV.

Various RuPaul's Drag Race queens are attending the VMAs this year — including the always chaotic and hilarious Plane Jane, who placed third in season 16. To our surprise: Plane chose to attend the VMAs in full Chappell Roan drag, despite having some choice words about the up-and-coming pop star in the past.

"Well, I actually, sort of wanted to redeem myself in the eyes of Chappell stans, and show that I'm one of them," Plane told Out while on the red carpet. "I am obsessed with Chappell Roan. I live and breathe, and inject Chappell Roan straight into my veins."

The Drag Race season 16 finalist continued:

"And I just wanted to pay homage to this classic Chappell Roan look. The song 'Pink Pony Club,' it's really about the queer community. It's about drag. And it's a love letter to drag. So I'm just here repping the queen… and, of course, giving it my little big booby twist."

When asked about which celebrity she'd give a drag makeover to, Plane brought up her maxi challenge-winning transformation of a RuPaul's Drag Race Live! dancer from Las Vegas into a drag icon called Lazi Susan during the makeover challenge of season 16.

"Chappell Roan is no. 1 on my list," Plane replied. "But, if not Chappell, I just saw Anitta. Let me make you over, Anitta, honey! I love Anitta, honey… I love Brazil, yes! And, honey, Anitta rose with the queens back home, okay? She did so many collabs with Pabllo Vittar at this point. So we need to see Anitta up in some fierce drag, okay, baby?"
