TOP 10 BUSIEST US AIRLINES BY SEATS
- The top 10 carriers by seats remain unchanged from last month.
- Despite a 6% reduction in capacity, American Airlines remains the biggest carrier in the US this month with 20% of the market, 19.9m seats.
- Delta Air Lines remains second and Southwest is a close third largest, both with 19% share, and 18.2m seats and 18.0m seats respectively.
- The big 4 carriers continues to account for 74% of capacity.

TOP 10 AIRLINES BY SEATS ADDED THIS MONTH VS LAST MONTH
- The biggest changes were reductions in capacity by the big 4 carriers; American Airlines reduced capacity by 2m seats, whilst Delta took out 1.4m seats.
- Southwest Airlines reduced capacity by 998,800 seats and United Airlines took out 944,900 seats.
- British Airways and Virgin Atlantic also reduced capacity by over 55,000 seats.
TOP 10 BUSIEST AIRLINE ROUTES IN THE US BY SEATS
- Capacity on the busiest route: Los Angeles-San Francisco grew by 17% daily vs last month.
- There was also double digit growth in daily capacity on the New York La Guardia - Chicago O' Hare route, by 17% daily; on the Atlanta - New York La Guardia route, by 14% daily; and on the Las Vegas - Los Angeles route, 10% daily.
- Capacity was reduced by 8% daily on the Denver - Chicago O'Hare route, taking it out of the top 10 to 12th busiest route.
TOP 10 BUSIEST AIRPORTS IN THE US
Top 10 Airports in the US by departing seats (one-way) this month.
- There are 659 airports with scheduled services operating this month. The Top 10 airports account for 36% of capacity.
- Atlanta remains the biggest airport in capacity terms, with over a million more seats that the next largest airport Dallas Fort Worth Intl.
- Daily capacity reduced by 10% at Chicago O'Hare International vs last month.
- Within the top 10 airports, capacity grew at only two airports. At Orlando daily capacity increased by 7% vs last month.
US STATES ADDING & REMOVING MOST CAPACITY THIS MONTH VS LAST MONTH
- Only 4 states record capacity growth this month, which is typical of this month which sees the shift from the IATA Summer to Winter season.
- Florida has the only increase of any significance with carriers adding 6% more seats this month.
- The other larger states of Texas, New York and California, all have capacity reductions this month, ranging from 5-6%.
- Capacity in the state of Illinois was reduced by 9% vs last month, when the difference in the length of the month is taken into account.
