A Bronx man died after a gunman walked up to him and shot him in the head at point-blank range, according to police sources.
Mario Guerrero, 26, was across the street from his Belmont Ave. apartment building near E. 176th St. in East Tremont when the gunman approached him and opened fire around 5 p.m., family and police sources told the Daily News.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, cops said.
The victim’s uncle told the Daily News his nephew was feuding with a local man over a girl, and believes the quarrel led to his murder.
“It started a couple of weeks ago,” said the victim’s 68-year-old uncle, who gave his name as Blanco Q. “A bunch of guys had an argument with him in the barbershop. After that, they were after him.”
“Mario was a good kid,” the uncle added.
The victim’s sister described her brother as a self-assured math wiz who worked as a delivery driver and liked to keep his own company.
“He was a very gifted mathematician, but he kept very much to himself,” said 28-year-old Amada Guerrero. “He was very comfortable with who he was.”
The grieving sister told the Daily News she and her brother recently lost their mother to cancer, making his sudden and tragic end all the more devastating.
“My brother and I lost our mother to cancer, so it was just him and me,” the victim’s sister told the News through tears. “Now I am alone.”
The victim’s sister said she’ll miss her brother’s peaceful nature and prays that he’s found peace with their mother.
“I’m going to miss his calm, loving nature,” Amada Guerrero said. “He was beautiful.”
“Our family loved him dearly, and we’re going to miss him forever. I hope he’s happy somewhere with our mom.”
The victim’s body was spotted at the scene beneath a white sheet soaked in blood beside two backpacks.
The shooter had braided hair, black clothes and a black bookbag, and fled on foot, according to sources.
No arrests have been made.
