Licensing & Accreditation

The School is fully licensed by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED), Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision (BPSS) and has been since 1977. In 2005, the School of Professional Horticulture received national accreditation by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET).

BPSS

BPSS oversees and monitors non-degree granting proprietary schools in New York State. The Bureau is responsible for ensuring that the overall educational quality of the programs offered will provide students with the necessary skills to secure meaningful employment and for protecting students” financial interests while attending proprietary schools. BPSS licenses/registers proprietary schools and credentials proprietary school teachers to ensure that appropriate standards are met. The Bureau investigates student complaints and conducts comprehensive investigations of schools to assure compliance with Education Law and Commissioner’s Regulations.

ACCET

The mission of ACCET is to inspire and promote quality-oriented continuing education and training. Through the establishment of standards and the assurance of an accreditation process focused on integrity, they seek to identify, evaluate and enhance the delivery of continuing education and training. Through independent peer-review and evaluation, ACCET inspires the continuous refinement of member institutions. Since 1978 ACCET has been officially recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

In addition, the School is certified by U.S. Department of Education as a Title IV school to administer federal student aid (Pell grants & Direct loans) to qualified students, certified by U.S. Department of Homeland Security (M-1 visas) and certified by N.Y. State Division of Veterans Affairs.
