Rutgers coach Greg Schiano says Army and Navy triple-option offenses are different

Although Army and Navy both run the triple option, they're different, said Rutgers coach Greg Schiano today.

The Black Knights (3-6) lead the nation in rushing, averaging 365.8 yards per game.

In a 21-20 victory over Navy on Oct. 15 at High Point Solutions Stadium, Rutgers held Navy to 162 yards rushing, 204 yards below its then-season rushing average.

"Army does more (than Navy) schematically," Schiano said today following practice. "Navy has a lot more nuances where Army does more formations and more scheme things."

As a result, "what we normally do against the triple option doesn't work. So we have to adapt. That's what makes it a hard week for coaches and players. It forces you to play even more disciplined football.

"Army this year has employed the pure wishbone (offense), which Navy hasn't done. In some games (Army) is 75-78 percent wishbone and the rest broken bone."

WR Mark Harrison (head injury) attempted to practice today but couldn't finish.

"He did some (things) and then he didn't feel well," Schiano said. "So I don't know what'll happen."
