LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP -- Severe beach erosion has forced Long Beach Township officials to close the entrances to five beaches that now have up to a 20-foot drop at public access points, according to a report on PressofAtlanticCity.com

Wind patterns and an off-shore sand bar are blamed for the erosion in recent weeks that have caused problems at beaches in the Brant Beach and Beach Haven Crest sections of the township, the report said. The township installed caution tape to warn of the drop-offs, the report said.
