Dennis Hopper battles prostate cancer, splits with wife

filed for divorce in Los Angeles County last week citing irreconcilable differences and wishes his wife Victoria Duffy nothing but "the best."

Hopper, who is said to be bedridden with prostate cancer, released a statement issued by Get Red PR today, "I wish Victoria the best, but only want to spend these difficult days surrounded by my children and close friends."

"They've been having trouble and he wants peace and quiet," spokesman Alex Hitz told Reuters. He said Hopper, 73, was "fully conscious" after being put on a new round of chemotherapy drugs

He received two Academy-award nominations for writing "Easy Rider" (with co-star Peter Fonda and Terry Southern), and as high-school basketball coach in the 1986 drama "Hoosiers." His other film credits include "Apocalypse Now," "Rebel Without a Cause," "Easy Rider" and currently appears in Starz TV series "Crash."

The couple have been married for 14 years and have an six year-old daughter
