Playtonic Games has released a new trailer for its upcoming Yooka-Replaylee remaster, reintroducing Shovel Knight as an NPC with unique new challenges for our heroes.
The character, based on the acclaimed 2D platformer of the same name, will receive a similar new coat of paint for the updated game, and will also come with a new and improved quest line. Based on the trailer alone, it looks like this will entail climbing atop a tower before booting a bunch of Shovel Knight-themed gems (some of which – or perhaps all – turn into enemies).
Although not officially confirmed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, Playtonic has heavily implied that Yooka-Replaylee will be making its way to the highly-anticipated console. On the official website, the initial announcement simply said "Yooka-Replaylee will be playable on PS5, Xbox Series consoles and… Nintendo? (Ooh mysterious. We’ll have more on that as soon as poss!)".
Hmm... Seems pretty conclusive to us.
The original Yooka-Laylee was relatively well-received, though many noted that it couldn't quite meet the standards set by Banjo-Kazooie. Its sequel, Yooka-Layle and the Impossible Lair, garnered high praise for its Donkey Kong Country-inspired 2D platforming gameplay.
Will you be picking Yooka-Replaylee on the... aw heck, let's just say it - the Nintendo Switch 2? Let us know with a comment in the usual spot.

Oh yeah, there was a time when Shovel Knight was in damn near every indie game, wasn't he?
I'm so over Shovel Knight.
Heh, glad to see Shovel Knight got to stick around for Re-Playlee.
I wonder if he'll plug that he's getting his own re-play; Shovel of Hope DX?
I’m looking forward to this one if it hits the sweet spot with its price.
@Jack_Goetz He was so 2014.
Though I am curious as to what's been going on with Mina The Hollower, the next big Yacht Club game - haven't heard from that in a while.
@Jack_Goetz
They’ve done a very effective job at burying him.
Make sense that it'll be coming to Switch 2 cause at this point what other Nintendo console are there right. Switch 1 already had the original so it make sense to just bring this remastered to Switch 2 and let the new generation of gamers experience the game that started it all.
Knew that Shovel Knight was in Yooka-Laylee, but have never seen his challenge before so I wonder how it has been changed.
Anyway, looking forward to finally playing this game thanks to the remaster as long as it does indeed come to Switch 2 (would be surprised if it didn't considering the teasing as also mentioned by the article, but still)!
Loved the original Yooka Laylee and 100%d it. I did not understand other peoples hate, but I am old so love a good old 3D collectation.
Sorry, but to me that is way to early to create a remaster/remake.
Also Fuzzy Laylee is a bit weird to me.
Yes please! Bring it on!!
It would be better to see the underdeveloped areas of the game rather than the already stellar first level!
Well, I will get the PS5 version for sure.
Kinda strange that they don’t have the Switch 2 logo in there even though the system was revealed almost two weeks ago.
@Serpenterror Wii U 2! 😁
This kinda makes me want a proper 3D Shovel Knight game.
the difference between this remaster and the original is like Knight and day.
I hope Nintendo commission Playtonic Games to make the next Donkey Kong Country title. Most of their staff are ex Rare devs
@Bunkerneath Impossible Lair has way better levels
@Giberaltor This kinda makes me want a proper 3D Shovel Knight game.
Took the words right out of my mouth! I was disappointed it was just a nonplayable cameo when I tapped on the video 😢
Surely they mean the Nintendo Virtual Boy
@Ravenmaster I don't think this will happen.
If Retro Studios finally releases Metroid Prime 4, Nintendo might ask them to make another Donkey Kong game.
@Antraxx777 Didn't Yacht Club Games kinda teased a new Shovel Knight game that goes beyond 2D?
Can't believe it's been 11 years, since the original Shovel Knight game was released. Too bad they got stuck on making DLC, spin-offs and cameos, otherwise, we might have gotten proper sequels instead.
I really wanted 16-bit and 32-bit sequels.
Now it feels like that ship has sailed...
I like how they made a trailer to confirm that the character that was in the first game, is in fact, still in the new version of that same game.
This would be like if Nintendo put out a trailer purely to confirm the Sim City cameo is still in the remake of Link's Awakening.
@SirMiki haha good one
My review of the impossible lair was: boring levels that you have to play through twice.
And I've heard impossible lair is the better of the two!
@kkslider5552000 I mean they actually did make a point of talking about the Mario enemies being in the Link's Awakening remake in one of the Directs and the Mario dolls are listed in the eShop blurb before the custom dungeons are.
