Nextlink assisted Dah Chong Hong with Hong Kong’s first AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) cloud migration. This involved assessing readiness (Assess), establishing a migration strategy (Mobilize), and initiating the migration process (Migrate). MAP also provided execution tools and training, enabling a robust cloud foundation. With MAP’s support, Dah Chong Hong reduced initial migration costs and accelerated the process, completing it smoothly.
Dah Chong Hong’s cloud migration posed a significant challenge due to the vast and complex nature of its operations. Each business unit had unique project requirements and timelines, even when deploying to the cloud simultaneously. Leveraging its extensive experience, Nextlink devised a comprehensive execution strategy to ensure a smooth migration for Dah Chong Hong.
To address these challenges, Nextlink engaged in thorough communication management to understand the resources and development directions of each business unit at Dah Chong Hong, identifying key operational pain points. We also helped establish a Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE) to clarify responsibilities, ensure information transparency, and facilitate efficient communication, thereby enhancing the migration process.
Nextlink applied the internationally recognized 7R best practices (Rehost, Relocate, Replatform, Refactor, Repurchase, Retire, Retain) to evaluate Dah Chong Hong’s cloud migration. This strategy determined how to transfer hosts, build new cloud services, and decide on software re-purchases or system retirements, pushing the migration forward in phases and increasing efficiency.
Nextlink established a secure Landing Zone for Dah Chong Hong, creating a scalable and governable cloud management platform to meet security and governance requirements. This framework ensured organized cloud management and effective use of cloud technology for future development.
Through close collaboration with Dah Chong Hong’s team, Nextlink managed technical personnel, end-users, and third-party suppliers, closely monitoring the migration. Regular reporting enhanced transparency, leading to the successful deployment of over 100 AWS cloud applications across six business units in a short time. Now, over 70% of Dah Chong Hong’s infrastructure is cloud-based.
