Pre-Draft Journey - Ron Holland

Check in with top 2024 NBA Draft prospect Ron Holland as he reflects on his offseason growth and season with G League Ignite ahead of the 2024 NBA Draft.

Overview
From Duncanville, Texas, Holland was the Gatorade Player of the Year in 2022-23 en route to landing a spot on Team USA for the 2023 Nike Hoop Summit and being named a 2023 McDonald’s All-American. He was a consensus five-star prospect and ESPN’s No. 2 player in the class of 2023. Holland opted to forego college and played for the G League Ignite in 2023-24, but he made only 14 appearances before undergoing surgery to repair a tendon rupture in his right thumb. He’s expected to make a full recovery and be healthy for the NBA’s Summer League. Holland averaged 20.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.5 steals with 44.3/24.0/75.7 shooting splits during his brief G League action.

Analysis
At 6-foot-8, Holland has elite fluidity for his size. His jumper looks smooth, and he can pull up from anywhere on the court and get his shot off, but his shooting percentages need to improve. He’s not a natural point guard, but he draws plenty of attention and is willing to find the open teammate. Defensively, Holland has all the tools, but he’s a work in progress on both ends of the floor.

Projection
Holland can develop into an elite three-level scorer and defensive player early in his career. His defensive prowess is reminiscent of Herbert Jones, but to reach his full potential he may need to sit on the bench for a few years like Jonathan Kuminga.
