If escaping London for a long country walk is your perfect idea of a sunny day out, this 25-mile path along the gorgeous Kent coastline could be just what you're looking for. The path, which was added to the National Trail by Natural England last year, offers an ideal opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts to take in some of the UK's most picturesque land and seascapes.
With the starting point less than two hours from London by public transport, the trail is perfect for those looking to get some fresh air, exercise, or walk their dogs. It also passes by some fantastic spots to visit, as Kent boasts some of the best seaside towns around. So why not stop off and enjoy the coast's pubs, cafes, and restaurants?
The easy-to-follow walking route from Ramsgate to Whitstable features the magnificent chalk cliffs that Kent is globally renowned for, miles of golden sandy beaches, and popular seaside resorts that attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The route allows walkers to access places they've never seen before, thanks to the new path securing legal rights of public access to coastal land, reports KentLive.

The 19-mile coastline around the Isle of Thanet makes up much of the path, which is considered one of Europe's best sites for wintering birds, chalk reef marine life and sandy beaches, according to Natural England.
To reach Ramsgate from London, it's a two-and-a-half hour drive along the A2 and M2. Via public transport, catch the Southeastern train from Stratford International, which takes just over an hour.
The entire 25-mile path might be a bit much for one day, but whether you decide to brave a long trek or a short stretch along the route, here's a sneak peek into what you can expect to see along the way:
Broadstairs

With its soft golden sands and generally calm swimming conditions, Botany Bay is a gem along Kent's coast. Kids will have plenty to explore, with rockpools aplenty.
Stone Bay
If you're not one for bustling crowds, then Stone Bay would be your ideal location. It's less chaotic than Viking Bay, its more vibrant neighbour, making it perfect for families whod love to have undisturbed fun in the sun, be it through building sandcastles, playing games or going for a refreshing dip in the sea.
Kingsgate Bay
Theres no denying why this Kent gem is frequently photographed and painted by artists. Kingsgate Bay is simply mesmerising with golden sandy beaches surrounded by chalk cliffs and the tranquil blue sea.
What makes the bay even more spectacular is a unique archway eroded into the cliff, offering a dramatic "window" view of the endless sea and sky.
Viking Bay
Viking Bay is a top-rated beach on TripAdvisor, boasting an impressive 4.5 stars out of five from nearly 1,000 reviews. One chuffed visitor shared: "This is hands down my favourite part of the Kent coast. The beach is large, sandy and clean. People just seem happy."
Herne Bay
Herne Bay boast a stunning beach that is perfect for anyone who doesn't want to go home with sand between their toes. It's a great spot to sit with an ice cream and take in the gorgeous scenery.
Whitstable
Oysters may be what put Whitstable on the map, particularly amongst seafood-loving Londoners. But alongside this, Whitstable's 'long, rambling high street' is absolutely charming and its beach perfect for a sunny stroll.
West Bay
Tucked away between Margate and Birchington, West Bay's sandy beach is a local gem, separated from neighbouring St Mildred's Bay by chalk cliffs. The vibrant beach huts lining the shore add a splash of colour to the scene.

Birchington-on-Sea

Highlights from the 'trendy yet affordable' seaside town of Ramsgate include its lovely beach, fixer-upper Georgian townhouses, and affordable rentals. Not unlike its relative Margate, Ramsgate boasts good rail connections to London, potentially making a commute to the city centre just about an hour and a half long.
Reculver Towers
Reculver Towers near Herne Bay is undeniably one of the eastern coast of Kent's most iconic landmarks. Over the recent years, this historical site has become a favourite choice for walkers during the lockdown period.
