I was watching a chappers video a few days back and they made the comment that the latest epiphones will have painted on bindings. Is this true? Also is the binding on my 2006 Standard real or painted? Just asking because there are a few spots especially where my forearm rests on the top front of the guitar were it looks to be chipping almost? I will take some pictures and add them soon. thanks

yeah its rob chappers like everyone said, here is the video where they talk about the binding.

Dont forget to check out @ 12:40 where they make fun of the epiphone saying it wont sustaine and will only make a "bleep" then it goes on to sustaine for like a minute and blows both gibsons out of the water ;)

But I'm 150% sure my bindings were not painted!!

I was laughing so so hard when the Epi sustain went for almost 30 secs, while they're saying the Gibson Standard is a sustain machine for 7 secs. :laugh2::laugh2::laugh2::laugh2:

There was an awkward moment where they try to justify their comments on Epiphone LPs

If the binding is real you can feel it when you move your finger over it.:applause:
The bindings on epiphones are painted. Hell even my 800 Euro japanese tele has painted binding.

Ever heard of the polyurethane finish they spray over the whole body, including the binding?

that did make me laugh, especially after all the Epi slating they did before hand.

fair play for them to actually stick it up on youtube with that included, most would edit that out.

however i find the pair of them cringeworthy.

and yeah all epis are bound with plastic, there's some epi workshop pictures around here showing them wrapping the binding and on my old refinished custom it was also plastic.

I wouldn't be too dismissive of it being painted, I've a Burny that's taken a knock and the 5 ply binding is 'painted' on. The outer layer will always be plastic binding but on alot of LP's it's a purfling type binding that's basically a thin strip rather than full length as it's cheaper. Here's a pic to show the purfling applied rather than full length binding

And here's a pic of my Burny showing it's pretty much 'painted' binding
