Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh called for 'more bland' and normal politics after 14 years of chaos and scandal at the Tory helm.

The actress, known for her role as the Queen's wisest confidante Lady Danbury in the Netflix series, gave her two cents on the election appearing on the Channel 4 Britain Decides panel, as she said what many on social media said they were thinking. Adjoa echoed words from a Guardian letter, calling for more "plain soup" after the "sugar laden cakes and jellies and foie gras and caviar" which has left us "all with a sore tummy".

Adjoa said Brits were gasping for "steadiness" after the chaos of the last few years, saying the public were tired of "fireworks" . "We don't need any big extreme things," she said. "We just need a steadiness and so I think with that partnership of Rachel and Keir there'll be something steady."

Adjoa said Brits just wanted a government to 'steady the ship'

The 61-year-old said last month she "wanted to vote Labour" but criticised Starmer over the controversy around Diane Abbott. Writing in the Guardian, the star said the party needed to "sort out" the debacle after the veteran Hackney MP claimed she was unable to stand for Labour.

Adjoa was quizzed about so-called "culture war" issues, and whether a Labour government would see an end to arguments over "wokeness" which she dubbed as "dog whistle" politics. She listed just a few of the litany of issues facing Brits, from "mould growing in people's homes" to a lack of economic growth.

"We've got 30% of 4.3million children going to school hungry," said Adjoa, referring to figures from an Action for Children poll released in May. "We've got really big fish to fry and I think that the sort of dog whistle angle of lots of stuff that we get said. It's like, 'look over here, don't look over here'. You know, don't talk about Brexit on the country, or what you know is going on with the environment. These are massive things."

"Perfectly, perfectly put," on Twitter user wrote in response to Adjoa's comments, while another said the star was "infinitely more insightful and well-spoken than any of the politicians that have been on".
