Jax Jones has spoken out after fans said sharing a picture of a £19k bar tab was "boastful", given the current cost of living crisis in the UK.

The OUT OUT artist took to Instagram on July 2 to share a glimpse at his past week, which included releasing his new track Tonight (D.I.Y.A) with Jason Derulo and Joel Corry. One of the pictures showed the trio holding up cocktails at a bar. Among the photos was a lengthy bill which came to €22,338, which is around £19,000. The bill showed that seven bottles of Cotes de Provence wine, two bottles of Veuve Clicquot champagne and countless other types of alcohol were consumed.

The DJ captioned the images: "The last week has been such a buzz. Swipe to the end to see the bar bill Jason and Joel left me with." To this, fans called out the star for the seemingly insensitive image, which one fan said was equivalent to their "wages for last year and more than I will get this year".

"I love your music but I don’t think it’s so good to be boasting about how much you spent on a night out when people in this country are genuinely struggling," another fan commented. Someone else wrote: "When they drink the money we earn half a year in 1 night."

However, Jax responded to the discourse surrounding his Instagram post, saying it wasn’t their bill. He responded to fans by commenting: "The bills is banter. Wasn’t ours." The DJ is estimated to be worth around £4m, thanks to his success collaborating with artists like Raye, Demi Lovato, and Stefflon Don. Last year, he delivered a performance in the Love Island villa with singer Calum Scott.

The DJ denied that the bill belonged to the group, though.

The pair performed their single Whistle on the reality dating series, which Calum said at the time was "quite daunting" but "really exciting". Just 15 Islanders were there to witness the performance - excluding the crew on set.

"It’ll be a bit weird, but I’ve done stranger gigs," the Dancing On My Own singer said prior to the performance. "It’s fine." The DJ has also been a long-time fan of the series. He tweeted back in 2018: "I think the worst thing about watching Love Island is knowing I’m nowhere near fit enough to be on it."
