Sharon Whelan Martin OBITUARY

Sharon Whelan Martin OBITUARY

Sharon Whelan Martin passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving husband Jack and her sisters. She was born in Redwood City and lived in the Bay Area until 2000. She was the second of five girls born to George Whelan and Virginia Ahern. Sharon was a dental hygienist for 47 years and was passionate about good health, fitness, and good nutrition. Her many patients loved her and owe her their smiles. In 1991, she married the love of her life, Jack Martin, and they began new adventures together. When Sharon took something on, she did it with her whole heart. She took care of her sisters, her mom, her many friends, and of course Jack. Once you were her friend, you were her friend for life. In 2000, Sharon and Jack moved to La Quinta in the Coachella Valley, where they enjoyed hiking, swimming, playing golf and hosting holidays. Sharon and Jack loved to travel. Together with Jack’s cousin Launie and her husband Bob, they explored Paris, Egypt, the Galapagos Islands, Vietnam, Spain, and Portugal. Summer road trips typically included trips to Montana to visit Jack’s family. Spending time in beautiful Whitefish was always a summer pleasure. They would escape the heat at Dana Point with Sharon’s sisters, and Sharon took weekend trips with her friends.Sharon is survived by her husband Jack, her sisters, Maureen, Carol, Kathy and Janet, her brothers-in-law, Charlie and Mark, nieces Kellie (Steven), Jennifer (Bob), Catie, Audrey, nephew Brennan, and by many cousins. She is also survived by Jack Martin’s family: stepfather Marvin, sister Julie (Soup), nieces Lauren, Merrel, Shelby, brother Steve (Mary Jean) and their families. She was beloved by her many friends throughout California, her dental hygiene colleagues, and her Shadow Hills Yoga community. She will be missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank Mission Hospice and caregivers Eva, Ellen, Princess, and Vanessa. A celebration of life is planned for July in the Bay Area. There will also be a gathering for friends in the Desert in the Fall.Contributions can be made to Meals on Wheels, Mizell Senior Center, 480 S. Sunrise Way, Palm Springs, CA 92262.
