Chris Clenshaw, the Executive Producer of EastEnders, has announced his decision to leave the role in February 2025 after leading the show for three years. Clenshaw, who took on the role in January 2022, has been praised for revitalizing the long-running soap with bold storylines and significant milestones, such as the Loving & Losing Lola arc and the return of Cindy Beale.
His leadership also saw the introduction of the first Black and dual heritage family to run a pub in UK soap history and several high-profile guest appearances, including the then Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.
Under Clenshaw’s guidance, EastEnders has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Best Soap and Continuing Drama award at the Royal Television Society Awards and multiple wins at the Radio Times Awards. Before departing, Clenshaw will oversee the show’s 40th anniversary celebration, which will include live episodes and a unique interactive feature where the audience influences the outcome of a storyline.
Ben Wadey, most recently at Channel 4, will succeed Clenshaw as Executive Producer. Wadey previously contributed to EastEnders as a Story Editor and helped introduce key characters, including the Panesar family. He will return to helm the show after working on notable projects like Hollyoaks and Generation Z.
Chris Clenshaw first joined EastEnders as a storyliner in 2015 and returned in 2022 as Executive Producer. His work will continue to be seen on-screen until early summer 2025.
