UPDATED:

Officials will be spraying Thursday night in Allentown to target mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus.

The city’s emergency management agency said mosquito samples over the last two weeks have shown the presence of the virus, which is spread by mosquito bites. The spraying was initially scheduled for Wednesday, but it was pushed to Thursday because of rain.

The truck-mounted spray operation will take place between 8:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

The following areas will be sprayed:

  • Sumner Avenue
  • Union and West End Cemetery
  • Trexler Park
  • Highland Cemetery
  • Greenwood Cemetery
  • West End Theater District
