A jury that declared itself “starkly divided” led Norfolk County Judge Beverly Cannone to declare a mistrial in the murder trial of Karen Read on Monday.
For those among the jury of 12 who doubted that Read was responsible for the death of her Boston police officer boyfriend, John O’Keefe, a gamble by Read’s defense team at the end of the trial — relying on two witnesses with whom had barely spoken — may have played a significant role.
