Before their game against the Red Sox on Friday night, the New York Yankees thrilled fans by distributing a much-anticipated George Costanza bobblehead to the first 18,000 attendees at Yankee Stadium. The character, famously played by Jason Alexander in the 1990s sitcom "Seinfeld," created quite a stir on social media, with fans proudly displaying their new collectibles of the fictional Yankees assistant to the traveling secretary.
Two days after the event, Alexander responded to the excitement on social media. The 64-year-old Newark, New Jersey native even included a playful nod to a famous line from the third episode of the TV show's final season, much to the delight of "Seinfeld" fans who couldn't attend the game and are now eager to get their hands on the bobblehead.
"I'm so glad Bobblehead George was a fan fave," Alexander wrote on X.
"No, I don't get anything for it except joy that 35 years after putting on those glasses, people are still enjoying our work. The show was a gift from you to us. Thanks for keeping it alive."
Available on eBay
Numerous Costanza bobbleheads have appeared on eBay, with some listings reaching prices as high as $214.99 plus shipping.
Adding to the excitement, the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Mets' High-A affiliate based in Coney Island, are preparing for their annual "Seinfeld" night.
They too will be giving away Costanza bobbleheads as part of their promotional event. The night will feature guest appearances by Jeremiah Burkett, who played Jean-Paul, and Richard Fancy, who portrayed Mr. Lippman.
