However, Shakira turned a deaf ear to all the criticism and has been completely focused on her career as a singer after having put it on the back burner to dedicate herself to her children with the former FC Barcelona player. Now, the Colombian singer is focused on the promotion of her latest album, which, in addition to having revived past controversies, promises to be a success.

The Barranquilla native has been doing media rounds to promote her new album, during her latest interview with Allure magazine, she talked about some topics beyond music, calling much attention to her point of view on the movie 'Barbie', which she did not hold back criticizing it harshly.

Shakira: "They felt it was emasculating"

Greta Gerwig's film, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the roles of Barbie and Ken did not please the artist's children at all, who said they hated it completely. As Shakira explained, this was because "they felt that I was emasculating and to a certain extent I agree with them," she said, referring to the feelings that her two children, both boys shared with the singer.

"My sons absolutely hated it. They felt that it was emasculating. And I agree, to a certain extent. I'm raising two boys. I want 'em to feel powerful too [while] respecting women. I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also protect and provide. I believe in giving women all the tools and the trust that we can do it all without losing our essence, without losing our femininity. I think that men have a purpose in society and women have another purpose as well. We complement each other, and that complement should not be lost."
