Last Thursday, November 16, Colombian singer Shakira enjoyed a great moment after winning three golden gramophones at the Latin Grammy gala held in Seville, the first time she had done so outside the United States.

During the night, the top winner in terms of awards at the ceremony (tied with Karol G and Bizarrap) took the opportunity to remember how much she loves Spain despite the difficult period she left behind in Barcelona. A stage with which she will have to reconnect with the hard way next Monday, November 20.

That is the date set for the singer from Barranquilla to sit in the dock at the Barcelona High Court for an alleged crime of tax fraud. Her problems with the Spanish tax authorities are well known, but as fate would have it, on her return to the country she will have to deal with both blows.

The Prosecutor's Office is asking for up to eight years and two months in prison for the Colombian, accused of defrauding the tax authorities of around 14.5 million euros between 2012 and 2014.

Is there a possibility of a plea bargain?

According to the website 20minutos, the trial is scheduled to last twelve sessions, with up to 117 witnesses expected to appear, in order to determine whether Shakira pretended to have a tax residence in the Bahamas and, in doing so, tried to evade the Spanish tax authorities.

However, as also reported by the aforementioned media, the Colombian could reach a deal with the Prosecutor's Office and thus mitigate her punishment, despite the fact that the artist has already rejected this proposal in the past, recognizing herself as a victim of persecution by the tax authorities.

Despite having more open cases, Shakira has already repaid the 14.5 million euros that the tax authorities demanded and another three million in interest, so her sentence could be reduced.
