The MLB All-Star Game is the dream of all children and young people who aspire to reach the Major Leagues. Paul Skenes has just fulfilled that dream, and it turns out that the dream is not for free, as it comes with a juicy financial reward that will increase the Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher's net worth.

Year after year, the best players meet at one of the MLB venues for a week of exhibitions and meetings with the fans. The week peaks with the All-Star Game, which pits the best of the National League against the best of the American League.

However, the game is more than just a marketing event for the players and the league. At least the participants can't complain since the members of the winning team pocket $25,000 per head, plus travel expenses.

According to the MLBPA collective bargaining agreement, participating players receive a $117.50 per day benefit for food and $1,000 in spending cash for the event. Those who agree to use a microphone for the broadcast get an additional $10,000.

To win the maximum possible prizes and perks, Skenes and the National League team will have to do their best to beat the American League.

The Skenes contract

While it is decided who will win the All-Star Game purse, Paul Skenes has no financial worries. The star rookie signed a record $9.2 million contract with the Pirates just last year.

Skenes' contract is for a base salary of $740,000 annually. The remainder of the deal is a massive signing bonus, surpassing by nearly $500,000 the $8.42 million bonus the Detroit Tigers gave Spencer Torkelson in 2020.

So far, the former LSU Tiger has earned every penny out of that contract. Since he joined the Pirates majors team in May, Skenes has started 11 games, with a record of six wins without defeat. He has pitched 66.1 innings, struck out 89, and walked 13, with a 1.9 ERA.

Although he has only played at the highest level of American baseball for a few weeks, Skenes' career looks promising. The rookie has shown maturity and control in his matches, and we have to see how far he is capable of going.
