Vasiliy Lomachencko is the IBF lightweight champion, and according to reports, he was negotiating with Gervonta Davis to try and unify the title as Davis is the WBA champion, however things could change, as trainer Kenny Ellis believes differently.

"Lomachenko said he will step aside and let Gervonta Davis fight Shakur Stevenson this fall, and he'll fight the winner early 2025," Ellis said on Instagram. If that is the case, the tide has turned on this boxing division for the near future.

The fact the Stevenson is holding the WBC title, Lomachenko could fight for three belts rather than two if he waits a little longer to then later try and unify the division making it more interesting for the parties involved.

Shaku Stevenson is a good fit for now

Shakur Stevenson is the boxer that many wanted to see in action again. The Olympic champion in Rio de Janeiro 2016 will have his debut in 2024 against Artem Harutyunyan where the WBC lightweight title will be at stake and the expectation is to see what his presentation will be like.

Because if he leaves a good image, the hope grows for the fight that has been expected for a long time to gain strength against Gervonta Davis. The lightweight champion will put his title at stake this Saturday, July 6 in New Jersey. Shakur has not fought since November, when he defeated Edwin De Los Santos in a fight that did not satisfy the spectators, who called Stevenson boring.

This test against the German Harutyunyan will serve for the 27-year-old boxer to demonstrate that he is in a position to have a chance against someone who looks unbeatable like Gervonta.
