Edgar Berlanga, Canelo's possible opponent, asks for respect for Saul Alvarez: He is a legend
Actualizado

Since it became known that Edgar Berlanga was designated by the World Boxing Association (WBA) as the mandatory opponent for Saul Alvarez, the boxing world and the media in general began to look in the direction of the Puerto Rican-born fighter, but born in Brooklyn, New York, who boasts an impressive record of 22 fights, 17 of which he has won by knockout.

Fueled by the long history of confrontations between Puerto Rican and Mexican boxers, Berlanga uses this argument to seek a fight against the Jalisco native, who by the way has not wanted or has not let David Benavidez cross his path, something that the Puerto Rican took advantage of at the end of his recent fight against Irishman Padraig McCrory (whom he knocked out in Orlando by technical knockout), to challenge Canelo directly before the DAZN microphones and cameras: "I want Canelo now, I want him now, we want Canelo next. Let's make that fight.

It is a fact that this eventual bout at 168 pounds guarantees good emotions and could be an additional challenge for Canelo, since at 33 years old, fighting against Berlanga, 27 years old and in his prime, would throw the claim that he is only looking for 'comfort' on the ring.

Berlanga respects and admires Canelo's career

Perhaps, Berlanga's recent statements to the YouTube show 'Cigar Talk', hosted by Naji Chill, are not a good start to 'heat up' an eventual fight, since it is usually based on the explosiveness of the statements, disagreements and hostility, especially in the rivalry between both nations with a long-standing boxing culture.

However, the Puerto Rican's statements say a lot about his quality as a person and also as a professional, by recognizing 'hair and size' to who could be his next opponent and whose quality and legacy for world boxing is undeniable: "There is nothing I can criticize him. I have great respect for him. Canelo is a legend and you have to take your hat off when you talk about him (...) you can't talk shit about him, because he is a gentleman, and I am also a gentleman".

However, Berlanga only considers one possibility so that this consideration could cease to exist: "He would have to take me out of character, for me to act crazy against him (...) he would have to do or say crazy things, so that I also respond," he said emphatically to the boxing interview channel that has more than 150,000 subscribers on the platform, and where the Brooklyn-born looked very comfortable answering questions about his career, his country and his possible fight against the Mexican.
