NBA rookie Kyle Filipowski's personal life has come under scrutiny following allegations that his girlfriend, Caitlin Hutchison, groomed him during his high school years.

Filipowski, a former Duke standout, was drafted by the Utah Jazz with the 32nd pick, but the days leading up to his selection were clouded by controversy.

Filipowski's mother-in-law: "There will be things forthcoming"

Filipowski, 20, got engaged to the 27-year-old Hutchison in April, but their relationship has estranged him from his family.

His parents have accused Hutchison of "coercive control" and scheming to ensnare the young athlete for years.

Hutchison's mother, Amanda, has now spoken out for the first time to the Daily Mail to address the accusations.

"There will be things forthcoming,"Amanda Hutchison said from her home in Madison, Alabama.

She added that the couple is currently laying low amid the storm of allegations.

"What we've always said to the kids is, for everything that's good, if you have faith at all there will be adversaries, there's always a negative for every positive. So it's how we weather those storms."

Filipowski's family think he is a victim

The controversy seemed to have affected Filipowski's draft position.

The 6'11" player unexpectedly dropped to the second round, a situation linked by ESPN's Jonathan Givony to "off-court goings on" regarding his girlfriend.

Givony's comments prompted a response from Filipowski's mother, Rebecca.

She took to social media platform X, stating, "You are opening a two-year issue... and she is 28 with an endgame three years ago to have a diamond ring on her hand when Kyle left Duke. HE WAS STILL IN HS."

Adding to the family's public concerns, Filipowski's oldest brother, Daniel, accused Hutchison of "Mormon grooming and brainwashing," alleging that she set her sights on Filipowski when he was just 15 years old.

Daniel described his younger brother as a "victim" and claimed that Hutchison's pursuit began in 2019, recognizing Filipowski's potential as a high-level basketball prospect.

Speculation has arisen that Hutchison used to babysit Filipowski, as the two families were close.

They reportedly became romantic when Filipowski was a teenager, with Hutchison even attending his senior prom.

A tweet from Kyle's older brother Taylor in 2017 showed a group picture with Hutchison and Filipowski, who was 13 at the time.

Amanda Hutchison, addressing the media, emphasized their family's resilience.

"We are weathering storms. We are all zipped and clipped. Just covering down," she said, adding that clarification would be forthcoming but did not provide details.

She indicated that the matter is now in the hands of Kyle's agency and the NBA's public relations team.
