Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant seemingly can't help himself. He sealed his team's road victory over the New Orleans Pelicans with a dunk on Tuesday night at Smoothie King Center and appeared to shoot imaginary bullets into the crowd while celebrating.
Morant, 24, has led Memphis to four consecutive victories since returning from a 25-game suspension handed to him by the NBA after flashing a firearm multiple times on social media, among other violent incidents.
It's clearly not a good look to simulate shooting a weapon when he just came off the suspension, although the gun celebration is only a theory gone viral after Barstool Sports shared it on X. Morant may as well have been doing something else entirely different.
The video shows him performing some sort of gesture with his hands before seemingly doubling-down by adding what seems to be Morant pretending to shoot a bazooka.
Morant scored 31 points to beat the Pelicans 116-115 in overtime and to keep the Grizzlies undefeated since making his season debut in New Orleans a week prior. Memphis went 6-19 before their star's return.
Ja Morant is his biggest enemy
Morant was named the Western Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday after averaging 28.8 points since returning from suspension.
He also scored a game-winner against New Orleans during his season debut on December 19 to cap off a 34-point performance.
Nobody will argue that Morant is a problem for Memphis on the court, but his antics are what keep costing him. It's possible the NBA fines him for the celebration.
Morant had just recently gone viral for an adorable interaction with his daughter and fans were convinved he turned a new lead. Grizzlies visit the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night and the Memphis star will be under the microscope.
