Miami Heat superstar Jimmy Butler was among four players ejected after a brawl broke out early in the fourth quarter of their 106-95 road victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night at Smoothie King Center. Naji Marshall started the brawl by choking the fiery NBA veteran.
Butler, 34, did not appreciate a 26-year-old Marshall getting in his face and grabbing him by the neck after Heat center Kevin Love hard-fouled Pelicans star Zion Williamson.
Love, 35, dragged Williamson to the floor to prevent the bucket, leading to Marshall coming to his defense. Butler had a few words for him before all hell broke loose.
Heat bench player Thomas Bryant and Pelicans' Jose Alvarado were also ejected after they exchanged blows just when it seemed officials had the situation under control.
Pelicans fan ejected for throwing things at Heat players
Emotions evidently spilled over to the crowd because a Pelicans fan started throwing objects at the Heat players. Security escorted him out shortly after.
A Heat fan was also ejected after Butler, Marshall, Alvarado and Bryant left the court to a roaring ovation from the crowd.
Officials took their time reviewing video of the brawl before deciding on the four ejections. Love received a common foul for knocking down Williamson, which started the feud.
