Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos talked after the team’s 0-1 win against Athletic Bilbao and addressed the controversy around the referees and the VAR after the comments from Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu and some members of Athletic’s roster.
“We won’t win or lose the Liga title because of the referees, they should not be given credit because we’re leading the table, they didn’t do anything decisive,” said Ramos.
The captain also explained what goes through his mind before taking a penalty. Ramos has become a very successful taker from the spot and it’s been a while since he doesn’t miss a penalty.
“The only thing I think about is in how important the three points are. Those moments with high stakes are when I feel most comfortable, I think I am the right player to embrace that kind of responsibility,” he explained.
Real Madrid are four points ahead of Barcelona in the table and arguably faced the toughest game on their schedule last Sunday.
“It was crucial to win and we achieved our goal, it was one of the toughest games remaining against an opponent who are always very tough for us. We have to take step by step, we’re in a good physical condition and we’re happy with the three points we scored so that we put some more pressure on Barcelona. Now we have to wait but we still control our destiny. We want the title and you can clearly see that in the way we’re going after the game from the first whistle,” concluded the defender.
