💡 Insights from the Global #Evaluation of UNICEF work in slums data collection missions in Colombia, India, and Cambodia highlight the need for a paradigm shift in #UNICEF programming. Addressing slum complexity—density, governance, land tenure insecurity—requires integrated, multi-sectoral interventions and strong partnerships. A holistic approach is vital to improve the well-being of children and families in these unique #urban settings. #UrbanPoverty #SocialProtection Denis Jobin
🌍 Addressing Multidimensional Poverty in Urban Slums: Now in Cambodia 🇰🇭 I’m excited to share that we are continuing our UNICEF Global Evaluation of efforts to harvest evidences on UNICEF work contributing to reduce multidimensional poverty in urban slums, with our current focus on Cambodia. This critical evaluation aims to assess and strengthen UNICEF’s interventions, ensuring that children and families living in the most vulnerable urban settings have access to essential services and opportunities for a better future. During this mission, I had the privilege of visiting a community that is being reinstalled into a new development project, supported by our development partners. Witnessing firsthand how families are transitioning from informal settlements into a safer, more sustainable living environment highlights the tangible impact of collaborative efforts between governments, communities, and international organizations which need to go beyond sectoral approaches. In Cambodia, like in many other countries, families in informal settlements face complex challenges—ranging from limited access to healthcare and education to inadequate housing and sanitation. By evaluating our work on the ground, we aim to gather vital evidence that will guide future programming and support development partners in breaking the cycle of poverty. I look forward to sharing key insights from this evaluation and working towards sustainable solutions that address the unique realities of slum dwellers globally.
