We are excited to share highlights from the first-ever PA Certified Prescribed Burn Manager course! During this three day course, 27 dedicated students learned the skills necessary to safely and effectively conduct low complexity prescribed fires. This training is a significant step forward in maintaining and restoring healthy ecosystems through the use of prescribed fire on private lands. A huge thank you to our partners: the Pennsylvania Prescribed Fire Council, DCNR Bureau of Forestry, Pennsylvania Game Commission, Tall Timbers, and Penn State Extension for their invaluable support in making this program a success. Thanks to the dedication of Land Steward Elizabeth Hanson, our stewardship team, and amazing volunteers, we’ve turned a landscape once overrun with mile-a-minute weeds and invasive plants into a thriving habitat for native species. Check out the incredible before-and-after shots to see how native Allegheny Blackberry is now flourishing at the preserve, providing essential cover for ground-nesting birds and white-tailed deer fawns. In late summer, its fruit becomes a vital high-calorie food source for migrating birds. Celebrating Community and Resilience at Eastwick Community Day 2024! We are thrilled to share that our staff members had the privilege of attending the Eastwick Community Day 2024. This incredible event, hosted by the Office of Sustainability, brought together residents, elected officials, and various organizations to discuss important topics like flood mitigation and environmental justice. TNC, and its partner John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum, spoke with attendees about their recent National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant to identify nature-based solutions to flooding and habitat restoration in the community.
