We are pleased to announce that SRI Education is launching a new study, “Career Development Opportunities in Los Angeles Unified School District,” funded by the Institute of Education Sciences. In the first phase, the research will explore the availability, access, and implementation of these programs for secondary students, analyzing participation and progression. In future phases, the team will assess the impact of these opportunities on students’ educational outcomes. This study will join the new Career & Technical Education CTE Research Network 2.0, which seeks to increase the number of rigorous CTE studies and strengthen the capacity of the field to conduct and use CTE research. SRI Education researchers Jodie Lawrence and Ela Joshi, PhD will share insights on how instructors in higher education use open educational resources (OER) to implement open and culturally responsive practices at the virtual 2024 Open Education Conference on October 9th. Each year, the OpenEd conference brings together thought leaders to explore strategies to use OER and inclusive educational practices to make learning more equitable and accessible for students. In their session, “Students’ Experiences With Open & Culturally Responsive Teaching”, Jodie and Ela will share findings from a two-year study on how college instructors are using OER-enabled open and culturally responsive practices to improve teaching and learning in Tennessee. Study partner and faculty member Judy Westley from Columbia State Community College will share about her experiences redesigning and teaching her course using OER and open and culturally responsive practices for the last two semesters as part of the study. Join the session to learn how to implement inclusive pedagogies with OER and how use of these practice can enhance students’ academic and social-emotional learning experiences.
