Recruitment is the lifeline of a tech company; hire the right talent and you feel invincible working alongside the smartest minds. Hire poorly, and it's a chore to get out of bed and start the day. To ensure we hire the smartest minds, I extensively use the STAR questions. STAR stands for: 1. Situation 2. Task 3. Action 4. Result We take this one step further by asking applicants to complete an assignment where they get a taste of the job or the challenges that they'll likely face. But, when we started giving assignments early on, there was a candidate who mistook this assignment as a sneaky way for us to get actual work done by them. That wasn't true. The reason for giving the assignments is that interviews are inefficient in gauging a person's ability to do the job successfully. An assignment is a way (and a great one IMO) to reduce the false positives, both for the candidate and the organization, ie not getting the 'dream job' is better than getting it and then failing. Long story short, I had the team shift the STAR question in the assignment from our company's product to Typeform. We chose Typeform because it started around the same time, solved a unique problem (handled the applicants' potential concern of free work), and had a minimalist and clean UI, that we aspired for in our product. So today, when I met Joaquim Lecha, CEO of Typeform, I just had to share the story with him about how so many people in our organization have solved situational issues with Typeform, and it's a product that we've closely seen evolving to where it is now. Happy to hear that Typeform is growing fast, wishing both Joaquim Lecha and Typeform growth and success! #SaaSOpen #interview #business #technology

The BIG SaaS Reunion: This is what 500 founders and $4.5 Billion in combined revenue looks like!
Slide decks with SaaS Revenue Graphs ($400m!) My top takeaways from Day 1 CEO Keynotes at SaaSOpen: Savneet Singh (NYSE:PAR) ↳ Now is a great time to acquire companies. ↳ PAR acquired $40m of ARR for $206m (5x multiple, $6m EBITDA) ↳ $80m of new ARR added in last 6 months from acquisitions Ross Buhrdorf (CEO ZenBusiness) ↳ Services work. ↳ Zen Business broke $80m in ARR by combining PLG, services, and a SaaS upsell. Prashanth Chandrasekar (CEO Stack Overflow) ↳ Invest years to build strong community, revenue comes later ↳ Stack Teams customers paying $200k+ per year. Over $100m in revenue. Gregory Galant (CEO Muck Rack) ↳ It required extreme creativity (Shorty Awards!) to bootstrap to $50,000,000 ARR. ↳ Want to find the next big bootstrapping founder? Look for creativity. Peter Walker ↳ Bootstrapping through Series A stage will save you 20-30% equity. ↳ Try credit funds and debt. Founderpath $145m fund is an example. Alina Vandenberghe (Co-CEO Chili Piper) ↳ Just because you’ve raised $20m+ in VC doesn’t mean you can’t be profitable. ↳ Chilipiper is using AI to do more with less. Dror Liwer (Co-Founder Coro) ↳ You need a Channel strategy in 2024. ↳ Coro has hit $40m ARR on the back of its channel partners. ↳ EXCLUSIVE at SaaSOpen: Coro raises $100m Series D Amir Orad (Prev. CEO Sisense) ↳ Building 2 company’s that hit $100m+ ARR isn’t all luck ↳ Amir took specific approaches at SiSense Joaquim Lecha (CEO Typeform) ↳ Extreme power in bringing your 9 different funnels into One Funnel. ↳ Typeform using this to grow past $100m in ARR Gil Allouche (CEO Metadata) ↳ The best paid ads start as social, organic ads. ↳ Metadata has largest data set, over $13m in ARR Bob Moore (CEO Crossbeam) ↳ After selling RJ Metrics, realized how important Partnerships are ↳ Launching new book as Crossbeam grows! Robin Izsak-Tseng (G2) ↳ Powerful brands use G2 to get 5k+ hits per month Eric Siu ✓ (Single Grain | Start Growing) ↳ Programmatic SEO powered by ChatGPT and free tools is the future. ↳ Eric’s podcast has over 4.66m impressions on Youtube Jamie Akhtar (CEO CyberSmart) ↳ Build a channel or going direct is expensive ↳ CyberSmart spend $1m+ on Channel/Direct, now at $5m+ in ARR Jim Yu (CEO BrightEdge) ↳ You hire for skill and fire (usually) for who they are (culture) ↳ Your org chart must change from $25m to $100m in ARR ↳ BrightEdge uses function orgs + business units Brad van Leeuwen (Co-Founder Cledara) ↳ Focusing on conversion at all costs is how you win ↳Cledara now working with 1k+ companies and 5.2k+ vendors James Isilay (CEO Cognism) ↳ Network (and how you use it is key) ↳ Cognism network helped drive ARR over $70m as of today If you missed this SaaSOpen, the next one is Sept 5-6th in NYC. Big career moment for me!!! Super honored to speak at SaaSOpen - March 28th, 2024 Austin Texas later this week about Founder-Led Marketing and how you can replicate the Chris Walker playbook to add $1m ARR this year from your founder brand. Here are the 3 pillars I will be breaking down in my keynote: Finding founder/audience fit - How to become your ICP's #1 resource - The 3 steps to finding founder/audience fit - How Chris Walker drives $10M ARR from his personal brand Building a content engine - The 2 Content Pillars that drive pipeline - How to produce a daily LinkedIn post in 1h/week - The measuring & iteration framework that books us 30+ demos every month from Linkedin Leveraging winners - How we booked $167,000 in sales from 1 Linkedin ad alone - How ComX & Siteimprove used their executive content to support Sales and book more demos - How SafetyWing generated $178k net new ARR on $21k ad spend (8.4x ROAS) Super grateful for this opportunity. If you're at SaaSOpen or in Austin and wanna meet up, shoot me a DM!! My wife and I will be in Austin from March 26 - April 1. #saasopen
