Excited to announce that our REACH2 project—Reinforcing Equity, Accessibility, and Community in Hydrogen—has been selected by the  U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for the negotiation phase under Topic 5: Equitable Hydrogen Technology Community Engagement! This project represents a collaboration between Partnership for Southern Equity, Southern Company, and our team as we work to make hydrogen technology more equitable and accessible for all communities. On July 16-17, 2024, the Hydrogen Education for a Decarbonized Global Economy (#H2EDGE) program hosted a dynamic in-person workshop at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. The event, "Connect the Dots: Linking Hydrogen Education to Workforce Development Needs", brought together over 70 key stakeholders from academia, industry, labor associations, government, and beyond.     The workshop set out to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and discuss effective strategies for advancing #hydrogen #education and #workforce development. We were honored to hear from distinguished speakers who shared their insights on education programs, workforce development, and cutting-edge research in the hydrogen sector.     Panel discussions provided critical insights into workforce gaps, upskilling and reskilling needs, community and labor engagement, and strategies for recruitment and retention. We also highlighted the pivotal role of HBCUs, community colleges, and technical schools in preparing the next generation of hydrogen professionals. Question: When is the best time to determine your #electrolyzer maintenance strategy? Answer: Before you build it. This week, the EPRI Low-Carbon Resources Initiative (LCRI) and Asset Management teams partnered with NOMAC in Dubai for a collaborative two day workshop. Together, we reviewed and developed best practices for electrolyzer site acceptance testing and preventative maintenance procedures to support long-term reliable operations. 𝗛𝟮𝗘𝗗𝗚𝗘'𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 #𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝘆𝘇𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 course was a resounding success! Over 𝟮𝟭𝟬 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗲𝘀 participated in this three-day virtual #course, gaining essential knowledge about electrolysis technologies and their role in a low-carbon future. Over the course of three days, we explored the fundamentals, framing low-carbon #hydrogen, and defining electrolysis, we delved into safety protocols, regulations, environmental impact, and workforce development, and explored historical and projected deployment and scaling up. From alkaline electrolyzers to emerging technologies, we covered it all! We discussed critical factors like electrical requirements, water inputs, and operational considerations. It's been a great day at EPRI H2EDGE International Workforce Development Workshop - an exciting opportunity to meet #HBCU representatives, #CommunityColleges, #transitagencies, and #utilities to discuss clean energy opportunities with #hydrogen. Thank you to Low-Carbon Resources Initiative (LCRI) and others who presented on the state of H2 in the jobs, job creation, and workforce paths for clean hydrogen across industries. It's amazing to see that 40% of energy jobs are in #cleanenergy and that includes a 25% increase in #hydrogenfuelcell vehicles. #H2Energy #CleanFleets #GreenFleets #cleanenergy #LowCarbonIntensity #altfuel #transit #USDOE

Getting to net-zero is a global challenge that will require local solutions. Collaboration will be crucial to effectively deploy new technologies. Regardless of the technologies and infrastructure deployed, a skilled and educated workforce will be essential. For the next two days, educators, industry leaders, researchers, and government representatives from across North America are rolling up their sleeves at the H2EDGE Connect the Dots Workshop, hosted by EPRI’s Low-Carbon Resources Initiative (LCRI) and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University to discuss how we can collaborate to ensure a strong workforce is ready and that these opportunities do not leave anyone behind. Diversity and inclusion are key to strengthening our workforce and providing equitable opportunities for all. By embracing diverse perspectives and ensuring inclusive practices, we can build a more resilient and innovative workforce.
