Data-driven decision-making is crucial for cities to effectively combat urban heat islands. Google's new #HeatResilience tool applies AI to satellite and aerial imagery, helping cities identify their hottest, most vulnerable communities and prioritize cooling strategies. By accounting for local characteristics like green space and roof reflectivity, this tool provides actionable insights at the neighborhood level. We're currently piloting the tool in 14 U.S. cities, aiding officials in developing plans to address rising temperatures. As AI becomes increasingly prevalent throughout Asia-Pacific, it's more important than ever to stay vigilant. In Singapore alone, 1 in 2 people use generative AI daily, and that includes bad actors creating sophisticated cyberattacks: more believable phishing emails, difficult-to-detect malware, and online misinformation. We believe that building resilient local communities and a safer digital world means equipping everyone with the tools to stay safe online. Last year, through the ASEAN Foundation’s Digital Literacy Programme, supported by Google.org, where Bamboo Builders was a local implementing partner… Willie, a TomoWork beneficiary, shared his personal story of falling victim to an online scam and the fear and shame he felt afterward. Through the training program, Willie gained the knowledge and confidence to identify scams and protect himself in the future. Today, Willie is a powerful advocate for scam prevention, sharing his story and educating others in his community. That's why, we are proud to support Bamboo Builders with a $2million USD (approx. S$2.6 million) Google.org grant to launch SG ScamWise and partner with the local organizations, including Tech For Good Institute, to nurture a Singapore that is Well-Informed, Secured and Empowered and help another 100,000 Singaporeans and more to combat scams! As teens navigate the complexities of today’s world on and offline, we need to make sure they have what they need to build healthy, positive and productive mental health habits. Since 2019, searches for “teen mental health” have more than doubled, reaching an all time high in 2023 – making it all the more critical to reduce the stigma around mental health and help teens build strong mental health habits. As part of the Teen Mental Health Initiative, Google.org will work with an exceptional group of partners to bring this work to life in classrooms across the country: ➡️ DonorsChoose: With today’s announcement, Google has fully-funded all live mental health projects from more than 2,000 high school teachers on the Donors Choose platform, totaling over $1.5M. For eligible projects posted after today, Google will provide up to $500 for every teacher. ➡️ Child Mind Institute, The Jed Foundation (JED), and The Steve Fund: Knowing that teachers also need resources to navigate the ins and outs of teen mental health, we’ve supported these leading youth mental health nonprofits' work creating nine 30 minute, mental health training courses for teachers. (And completion of a course earns a teacher a $200 Donors Choose credit!) ➡️ Selena Gomez’s #RareImpactFund: We also provided support for Rare Impact Fund to continue their work advocating to bring mental health resources and curricula to classrooms. We share Selena and the Rare Impact Fund’s goals – reducing mental health stigma and expanding access to mental health services and education for young people around the world. At today’s event we heard once again something we know to be true in classrooms everywhere: That teachers are so often at the forefront of helping teens navigate mental health challenges. The Teen Mental Health initiative – a part of Google's broader Digital Wellbeing Fund, which increases from $20M to $25M with today’s announcement – and its partners will ensure that teachers across the country have access to classroom resources and expert-created training to help them navigate crucial mental health conversations with young people. 🔗 Link: https://goo.gle/4dhk1eX
