As FIRE PREVENTION WEEK kicks off from October 6-12, it’s a crucial time for all of us to renew our commitment to safety. For businesses, ensuring fire safety isn't just a regulatory requirement—it's a moral obligation. Here are some key steps to consider: 1. Make sure your fire escape routes are clearly marked and accessible. Regularly review and practice evacuation plans with your team. 2. Schedule and execute fire drills to ensure everyone knows their role and can react swiftly in an emergency. 3. Verify that fire alarms, extinguishers and sprinklers are in working order. Regular maintenance is essential to keeping these systems reliable. 4. Offer training on fire prevention, including safe practices for handling flammable materials and the importance of keeping exits clear. 5. Keep storage areas organized and free of clutter, and ensure electrical systems are regularly checked by professionals. By taking these steps, we not only safeguard our assets but also protect the lives of our employees and customers. Let's make FIRE PREVENTION WEEK a time to reaffirm our dedication to safety and prepare for the unexpected. https://ow.ly/9xit50TqkN6

FCCI recognizes SAFE + SOUND WEEK: August 12-18, 2024 Safe + Sound Week is a nationwide event held each August and facilitated by the Occupational & Safety Health Administration (OSHA). It recognizes the successes of workplace health and safety programs and offers information and ideas on how to keep America's workers safe. Successful safety and health programs can proactively identify and manage workplace hazards before they cause injury or illness, improving sustainability and the bottom line. Safe workplaces are sound businesses. Every workplace should have a safety and health program that includes: MANAGEMENT LEADERSHIP: A commitment from the top to implement a program and use it to drive continuous improvement in safety and health. WORKER PARTICIPATION: Effective safety and health programs tap into workers' collective experiences, knowledge and insights to find solutions to workplace safety and health challenges. SYSTEMATIC PROCESS: Every effective safety and health program has a process for identifying and controlling workplace hazards. #SafeAndSoundAtWork.

HEAT ILLNESS PREVENTION As temperatures rise, the likelihood of heat illness also increases. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), heat illness occurs when the body can no longer control its temperature. The body temperature rises, sweating stops because the body can’t cool or heat itself and mental confusion begins. Muscles may twitch and shallow breathing may make it difficult to recover. Here are some factual tips to help you and others stay safe in the heat: 1. Stay hydrated even if you don’t feel thirsty. 2. Wear loose-fitting and lightweight clothing. Avoid dark colors that absorb sun rays. 3. Know the signs. Symptoms include weakness, cold and clammy skin, nausea or vomiting. If you experience these symptoms, seek medical attention immediately. 4. If possible, stay indoors. By following these tips, you can reduce the risk of heat-related illness. National Electrical Safety Month focuses on steps we can take to ensure electrical safety and accident prevention. Accidental contact with electrical currents is common and can cause electric shock, fires and explosions, leading to approximately 4,000 nonfatal job-related injuries and 166 deaths every year in the U.S. Make sure all electrical equipment is connected correctly, grounded and in good working order to prevent these accidents. Here are five ways you can practice safety when it comes to electrical devices: 1. Keep electrical devices and outlets away from water to prevent shock. 2. Unplug all electrical devices when not in use and before performing maintenance. 3. Replace damaged electrical cords. 4. Ask for professional help instead of tackling a project yourself. 5. Ground all electrical lines using ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs). #ElectricalSafety #HomeSafety #FirePrevention #SafetyFirst #PreventElectricalHazards
