Austin businesses that support policies that are family-friendly and business-friendly.
About us
In Austin, more than 60% of all children under age 6 have all available parents in the workforce. Austin thrives when our children thrive because they are our future citizens, workforce, and leaders. Employers of every size and industry can play an important role in ensuring all children reach their full potential. Even though most employers are not directly involved in raising children, their support for family-friendly workplace practices is good for business and good for Austin. Research indicates family-friendly workplace practices result in increased productivity, improved loyalty and commitment, and resilient, happier and healthier employees. Bottom-line benefits to employers include improved on-boarding, less turnover and lower absenteeism. In addition, family-friendly practices allow your employees to invest in their children – your future workforce. Research also shows that the first five years of a child’s life is a crucial window for healthy development, with long range impacts. Family-friendly employment can help parents build safe, stable and nurturing relationships and environments for young children.

Grateful to EMGA Steering Committee member Rudy Metayer for advocating in front of Travis County Commissioners Court that access to quality child care is an economic issue for our region.
Childcare is an economic issue. Time and time again I have witnessed the barrier that quality childcare is to people returning to the workforce. Many of whom are women. No matter your income or background, parents will not surrender the health and safety of their children to a provider they do not trust. We have to address this issue head on and that is why I testified yesterday in the Travis County Commissioner’s Court and enthusiastically support the TRE to help make sure that barrier is dramatically reduced in our region. It made me smile to see the UNANIMOUS support that came from the Court on this issue! Thank you for your leadership. It truly is the systemic change we are looking for at time of crisis regarding this matter. If we want the Texas Miracle to continue to flourish, we must allow all our citizens, not just a chosen few, to participate in our workforce. Childcare is an economic issue. Thanks goes to everyone who worked to bring this issue to the forefront. You really are changing lives. https://lnkd.in/escdrQFg

Without child care, parents can't work. That we knew. Just how much it is costing employers is mind blowing New report from Moms First and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) proves that inadequate child care costs U.S. businesses money every year.
Without child care, parents can't work! Our new report with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) proves that inadequate child care costs U.S. businesses money every year. In looking at 5 companies offering child care benefits — UPS, Etsy, Fast Retailing, Steamboat Resort, and Synchrony — we found that for every $1 employers spent on child care benefits, they saw a net gain of between $0.90 and $4.25 through reduced absenteeism, less lateness, and lower rates of attrition. And retaining as few as 1% of eligible employees can cover the entire cost of child care benefits. In other words: #ChildCarePaysForItself. Thank you Travis County and City of Austin for being one of the first municipalities to adopt this tax credit. Now we need our neighboring communities to do the same! https://lnkd.in/ghHvYvCM

" Child care has never been funded at the local level. As a state, we’re 100% reliant on our federal government to support child care, so there hasn’t been a mindset that the state should invest or the locals should invest. But this is something that we as a community should be asking: Are we making sure that there are places for our [age] 0-5 kids so that our families can work?"
