Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is honored to leverage its resources to support in-house clients in their missions to give back and do good in the world through our corporate pro bono partnerships. As Kate Berry, a Human Rights Attorney at Microsoft, attests, "a partnership with a law firm…helps set the table…for in-house counsel who want to do good but don't know where to start and gives them the resources to get going." Hear more from Kate and other industry leaders as part of our In-House Insights series, where in-house counsel share and reflect on many topics involving pro bono and social impact. DWT is grateful to collaborate with Kate and her colleagues at Microsoft, and we invite you to partner with us as well. Last week, we collaborated with the Appleseed Network to host a first-of-its-kind pro bono research project in honor of Pro Bono Week. Volunteers from Davis Wright Tremaine LLP and eight companies joined forces to research access to SNAP benefits and Medicaid for individuals leaving incarceration. This research will be used by Appleseed centers in Alabama, Kansas, Missouri, and Texas to identify solutions to help formerly incarcerated individuals access crucial benefits. As a result of these efforts, DWT was honored in Appleseed’s Pro Bono Week Spotlight. We are humbled by this recognition and are so appreciative of Appleseed’s partnership and the dedication of our DWT and in-house volunteers for making this work possible. Thank you to all who participated in Pro Bono Week by helping to ensure a brighter tomorrow for some of society’s most marginalized communities.
On Monday, Appleseed partnered with Davis Wright Tremaine LLP and volunteers from 8 companies for a pro bono day of service. As part of #ProBonoWeek, we focused on researching the challenges that people face in reentering society after incarceration, with a particular focus on reducing barriers to SNAP and Medicaid. The insights gathered will help inform advocacy efforts at Kansas, Missouri, Texas, and Alabama Appleseed to better support individuals in their reintegration journeys. Many thanks to our volunteers for their dedication to this important cause! We are proud to announce that Davis Wright Tremaine LLP has been named one of Law360’s 2024 Social Impact Leaders, marking the fourth consecutive year we’ve received this honor. Not only did DWT rank 14th in Social Impact Leaders among major legal firms, but we were the smallest firm to be included in the top 15. This recognition would not be possible without the collaboration of our nonprofit partners and the continued dedication of our attorneys and staff to whom we owe tremendous gratitude. Thank you to all who have given back and helped make a meaningful difference in our communities.

For the third year in a row, we were honored to collaborate with Amazon on their annual Pro Bono Report. This year’s report highlights Amazon’s 65,000 volunteer hours dedicated over the past 10 years and celebrates the countless lives transformed through the power of pro bono. We invite you all to explore it further and learn more about the power of in-house teams doing good.

“Hopefully this lawsuit will make it easier for thousands of service members to receive some measure of recognition for how they were unfairly treated … and also allow the public to fully appreciate the scale of this injustice.” DWT attorney Joel Richert was quoted in a recent The War Horse News article about the disappointing response to President Biden's pardons for LGBTQ veterans. He, along with DWT partner Thomas R. Burke, represent The War Horse News in a lawsuit seeking transparency regarding court-martial records. Despite claims that "thousands" could benefit, only eight applications have been submitted, raising concerns about restrictive eligibility criteria and the burdensome application process.
