We’re proud to spotlight Rhode Island in celebration of the Navy’s 249th birthday this month. Providence, Rhode Island, holds the distinction of being the first to call for the establishment of a Navy, with the Rhode Island Assembly urging the Continental Congress to create a fleet to protect the colonies. In honor of this legacy, Rhode Island is our featured state for this week! As part of our ongoing #VETSInYourCommunity series, we’re thrilled to showcase the Ocean State and highlight our efforts to support its veterans! At DOL VETS, we’re investing in service members, veterans, and their families in communities across America. We're all about #BreakingBarriers at the U.S. Department of Labor. We are pleased to announce that we recently formalized a partnership with Albany State University (ASU) through a Memorandum of Understanding. Deputy Assistant Secretary Julian Purdy and Interim ASU President, Dr. Lawrence M. Drake II signed the MOU at a ceremony held at ASU last week. The MOU allows us to work closely with the university's disability, veterans, and career service coordinators to support veteran students directly. This collaboration will ensure that veterans are aware of the essential employment services such as Labor Market Information, resume preparation, and job search strategies available through our American Job Centers. We are building similar partnerships with other colleges and universities through their veteran and disability services offices and hope this model will ensure that veterans have access to the full range of services and support they need to succeed.
