Trying and failing to get everyone in your organization on board with initiatives that would promote more connection in your work culture? The "knowing-doing gap" holds organizations back as leaders fall for one or more of the following fallacies: 1️⃣ “Common Sense” fallacy. Because actions that boost connection reflect common sense, they are assumed to be occurring in the organization (when in fact they are not). In this instance, leaders know something intellectually but aren’t emotionally invested enough to follow through. 2️⃣ “Seduced by a Management Fad” fallacy. Leaders are seduced by sophisticated-sounding management fads, so there is an utter failure to implement simple, commonsense actions that boost connection and have the greatest effect on results. 3️⃣ “Only Give Me the Practical” fallacy. Leaders want to get straight to the practical and actionable in training. Without grounding people in why connection is important and how it works, actions that boost connection don’t take root. This is akin to doing without knowing. 4️⃣ “Failure to Measure” fallacy. Leaders see connection as so obvious they fail to measure it, which signals to employees that connection is unimportant, and, as a result, they don’t follow through on actions that boost connection. Find out how to overcome these roadblocks to creating a culture of connection in this article. #Roadblocks #WorkCulture #CultureOfConnection #ConnectionCulture #ChangeManagement

The final months of a calendar or fiscal year are an important time for teams. When you consider the goals you established for the year (or were assigned to you and your team), how are things looking at this juncture? Are you confident you will meet the goals by the end of December, cautiously optimistic, concerned, or slightly panicked? A helpful practice for leaders and managers to undertake is to have the people you are responsible for leading document what they’ve accomplished year-to-date. In these documents, encourage people to include as many accomplishments as possible — big and small. Once you receive everyone’s accomplishments, create a master document that groups the accomplishments under your team’s priorities and goals, and an “other” category that includes accomplishments that don’t fit under one of your team’s annual priorities. Why take the time to do this now? Assembling this information should bring clarity around three facets: perspective, progress, and performance. #Leadership #TeamLeadership #GoalSetting #Priorities #Goals

3 ways to connect with others and increase your own #SocialIntelligence as shared by Michael Stallard - Culture of Connection - Speaker/Teacher: 1. Make quick connections with new acquaintances. If you are meeting an individual for the first time, develop the habit of using his or her name several times in the conversation so that you will be more likely to remember it. Another way to remember names is to think of someone else you know who has the same first name as that individual. Connections with others are strengthened when you discover shared interests and experiences. To do this, ask a question such as “what are your interests outside of work?” 2. Practice active listening. Listen carefully and be present in conversations. When you speak with others, maintain eye contact and don't get distracted by averting your gaze, daydreaming, or checking your email or telephone. During conversations, pay close attention to what is said, actively ask questions and write down any items you need to remember or follow up on. 3. Don’t suppress empathy. Mutual empathy is a powerful connector. If an individual you’re interacting with expresses emotion, and it’s appropriate, allow yourself to feel the emotion rather than suppressing it. For example, if the individual shows enthusiasm, try to feel it. If the individual is sad, it’s ok to feel his or her sadness. Feeling another’s pain often reduces it and helps the person feel better. #EmotionalIntelligence #EQ #WaysToConnect #Connection #ConnectionCulture #Leadership #CareerAdvice
