Did you know that composting your food scraps can help fight climate change? ♻️ It’s an effective way to reduce methane emissions from landfills and enrich the soil with nutrients. You can start small by collecting food scraps in your freezer and then drop them off at a compost collection site. Check out the EPA’s guide to learn more. Let’s work together to make composting a regular practice in our communities. Who's already on board? 🌱 #Composting #ClimateAction #Sustainability #FoodWasteReduction #ZeroWaste #EnvironmentalImpact

About us
The California Climate Action Corps (CCAC) is an AmeriCorps service program that’s part of a California statewide initiative to address and mitigate the effects of climate change. CCAC matches Fellows with organizations to mobilize community members to take direct climate action through education, volunteer mobilization, and assessment focused on urban greening, organic waste diversion and edible food recovery, and wildfire resiliency. This is a climate-focused, workforce development program for emerging climate and environmental leaders. Fellows work directly with host organizations to implement projects to advance climate actions that engage community members, cultivate change, and leave a lasting impact.

Gleaning is a sustainable solution that connects farms to communities by harvesting leftover produce to feed neighbors in need. 🍅 Not only does this reduce food waste, but it also highlights the labor and care that goes into producing our food. 🌱 The Center for Agriculture and Food Systems has compiled a map of gleaning organizations nationwide, and we’re focusing on California’s Gleaning & Food Recovery Organizations. Have you been involved in a gleaning initiative or food recovery program? We’d love to hear your thoughts or recommendations on local efforts! Let’s work together to fight food waste and support those in need. 🌍 #Gleaning #FoodWasteReduction #SustainableAgriculture #FoodRecovery #ClimateAction #FoodSecurity #ZeroWaste

🌿 "Every individual matters. Every individual has a role to play." - Dr. Jane Goodall 🌿 We were honored to attend the Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots Program event featuring Dr. Jane Goodall, where over 50 California Climate Action Corps Fellows joined hundreds of volunteers from all over California. 🌎 Dr. Goodall shared her insights on conservation and the power of community-led initiatives, and we learned about the Tapestry of Hope—showcasing impactful stories of change across the globe. By connecting local and global efforts, the Tapestry of Hope is a powerful reminder that individual actions contribute to a larger movement for environmental resilience and sustainability. 🌱 #JaneGoodall #ClimateLeadership #CommunityImpact #SustainableFuture #ClimateAction

As we transition from summer to fall, it’s a great time to enjoy the outdoors! However, wildfire season is still here, and it's crucial to practice campfire safety. 🔥 —Keep your campfire small (3 ft max in diameter). —Create a 10 ft barrier around the fire, free of any vegetation. —Never leave it unattended. —Fully extinguish before leaving. By following these guidelines, we can enjoy our beautiful landscapes while reducing wildfire risks. 🌲 Let's work together to protect our communities! #CampfireSafety #WildfirePrevention #ClimateAction #SustainableOutdoors

Reusing oyster shells is an innovative solution to reduce food waste and restore ecosystems. 🦪 Organizations like Orange County Coastkeeper and Wild Oyster Project in California accept oyster shell donations for restoration programs to help new oysters grow. 🌊 These efforts contribute to improved water quality, habitat creation, and shoreline protection. Additionally, crushed oyster shells can be used as compost, mulch, or soil additives, offering sustainable benefits for both marine and terrestrial environments. 🌱🌍 By supporting these programs, and recycling oyster shells, we’re making strides toward a healthier, more resilient planet. #OysterRestoration #Sustainability #ReduceFoodWaste #SoilHealth #EcosystemRestoration #ClimateResilience #ClimateAction
