BRAC Ultra-Poor Graduation Initiative reposted this
Feeling cautiously optimistic & energized after representing BRAC International at the The World Bank Annual Meetings. We discussed the Bank's goals including an ambitious target to reach 500 million people (at least half women) through social protection and employment programs by 2030. Such targets will not be possible without #IDAFinancing, and I was able to support IDA replenishment momentum *AND* continue to advocate that its funding prioritize not only protecting the poorest but *also* meeting their multidimensional and long-term needs through #evidence-backed #economicinclusion programs, like the #Graduationapproach, that meet people's most basic needs through consumption support, while also enabling them to build sustainable livelihoods and unlock agency, know-how, and hope through coaching. I also spent two collaborative days in the steering committee and technical partner meetings for the Partnership for Economic Inclusion, a partnership BRAC is a founding member of that is key for #scaling these #evidence-backed approaches. With such ambitious reach targets, however, the risk is that we dilute programs and therefore their impact. Instead we issued all the partners a challenge to walk and chew gum at the same time: to grow #impact *and* #scale. We will need collaboration across the #graduationapproach and #economicinclusion communities to ensure this is achieved. Finally, I joined a breakfast full of some of the most inspiring #women in the world (pictured/tagged here) to discuss how to grow #femaleleadership and #impact for women around the world. I was reminded and so grateful that I stand on the shoulders of giants who indeed know how to walk and chew gum at the same time. It reminded me how critical it is that we center measurable impact - because evidence shows that women deliver it.
