💐Let’s talk about walled gardens and #advertising. A walled garden is an online environment that controls a user’s access to its content and services. The owner of a walled garden controls its data. 👨🌾 One of the best examples of a walled garden is Facebook. If advertisers want to use Facebook’s ad system (like its #retargeting or ad #attribution), they need to use Facebook’s infrastructure, including its tracking code. Walled gardens usually have a wealth of zero-party and first-party data, which is going to be essential in a post-#3PC world. Users can still opt in to share their data within that walled garden. Most social media networks are walled gardens, and because of this, advertisers can piggyback off their platforms to build, activate, and measure in-platform, exclusive audiences. 🌼🐝🪴
