  • MARCH 19TH (V): Resources and Funding for Workforce Training and Apprenticeships —This is your opportunity to hear from the Employment and Training Administration and learn how and what funding opportunities are in your community and how your organization can partner. Register now!
     
  • MARCH 20TH (V): Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) Office of Enforcement listening session — Lend your voice about the issues and challenges experienced in gaining and retaining access to the financial system, including bank accounts and other financial services. Register here by 3/17!
     
  • MARCH 28TH (V): Understanding the Congressional Feedback Loop and Redlining — Learn how to ensure your voice is included in legislation that is being proposed by the U.S. Senate and providing what is known as redlining.
     
  • APRIL 18-19TH (P): JCC Second Chance Month Action Days 2024 in Washington, D.C. — We will connect with U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives staff, senior staff within federal agencies, and network with formerly incarcerated individuals across the country.
     
  • APRIL 20TH (P): 2nd Annual Second Chance “FREEDOM BALL” in Washington, D.C.  — Meet us at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in downtown D.C. for a night of celebrating FREEDOM. Don’t forget your sneakers!
     
  • MAY 21ST (V): Fair Chance Employment Opportunities with the Federal Government — The Fair Chance to Compete Act was finalized and implemented in 2023, which requires all federal government agencies to create pathways for directly impacted to have opportunity for federal employment. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will share opportunities within their agency and how to seek, apply and respond to federal employment opportunities nationally.
     
  • JUNE 18TH (V):  Navigating Career Mapping Tools within the Energy job sector — The energy sector is expanding and having a criminal background is not a barrier. Come hear from the Department of Energy staff on how they are trying to ensure people with criminal histories have access to these high paying opportunities.
     
  • AUGUST 20TH (V): Child Support Modification and Debt Reduction — Federal regulations allow states to modify child support while a person serves a term of incarceration. Come hear from the Administration of Children and Families on how you can advocate for/partner with your state/county to remove this financial barrier upon release.
     
  • SEPTEMBER 17TH (V): Combating Employment Discrimination and Enforcement — Did you know you have rights? Have you been discriminated against for an employment opportunity? If so, this session is for you. Learn how to file a complaint with the EEOC against private employers and Civil Rights for governmental entities. 
     
  • OCTOBER 15TH (V): Protecting our Rights: Accuracy in Background Checks and Consumer Reports — Did you know you have a right to challenge backgrounds being reported for accuracy? Did you know you have a right to request a free copy of not only your credit report annually but your criminal background as well? You don’t want to miss this session with the CFPB and the Federal Trade Commission.
     
  • NOVEMBER 19TH (V): Creating Equity in our Communities through Targeted Hiring — You don’t want to miss this end-of-year opportunity to understand how the JCC’s work has informed federal interagency collaboration for greater community impact. Learn from the Department of TransportationDepartment of Energy, and Housing and Urban Development about Federal dollars focused on infrastructure repair, solar panel training and installation, and housing development. Learn how Section 3 targeted hiring practices support local communities to increase and expand employment opportunities for marginalized communities.
