Summer is here and the heat is on. If you’re new to the Boise area or just looking for some activities to try out this year, we have you covered with the best ideas for you and your family.
Guided art tours
The Boise City Department of Arts and History does several free guided art tours. The 90-minute tours are offered on Wednesdays and Saturdays through August. Each tour covers one and a half miles and registration opens on the 15th of each month for the next month. Space is limited on each of the tours to 15 participants.
Saturday tours are offered at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesday tours are at 11:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. You can find more information on the different tours here.
Alive After 5
Alive After 5 is one of the longest-running concert series in Boise. The free summer concerts happen on the Grove Plaza in downtown Boise every Wednesday through the end of July.
The 2024 lineup includes the Afrosonics, French Cassettes and Emilee Gomske, to name a few. The Downtown Boise Association provides games and other fun things for kids to enjoy while listening to the music.
Beer, wine, seltzers and non-alcoholic drinks are available for purchase, just don’t forget your ID if you’re buying alcohol.
Idaho Botanical Garden
The Idaho Botanical Garden is a wonderful place to walk around during the summer, with plenty of native flowers to see and enjoy.
The Garden hosts a concert series through September with different food trucks. Charcuterie boards are also available for online ordering or bringing your own food in. Adult tickets are $15 each and member and youth tickets are $12.
If you just want to see all the flowers. Join the Idaho Botanical Garden Ambassadors on a free hour-and-a-half-long tour of the grounds. The tours run every other Thursday and Saturday at 10 a.m.
Snake River Stampede
The 109th annual Snake River Stampede rodeo is happening July 16 through 20 at the Ford Idaho Center. There is plenty to see and participate in at the rodeo, like the Buckaroo Breakfast, concerts and shopping.
There are also different themed nights throughout the rodeo supporting causes like breast cancer awareness and first responders. The championship finals are held on the last day of the rodeo. You also won’t want to miss the Snake River Stampeders, a one-of-a-kind drill team that performs their routine in the dark.
Boise Hawks Baseball
This wouldn’t be a summer list without mentioning America’s pastime: Baseball. The Boise Hawks are an independent team of the Pioneer League and home games are played at Memorial Stadium in Garden City.
The team plays against others in the area like the Grand Junction Jackalopes and Ogden Raptors. If you can’t make it out to the games, you can watch them live for free on the Boise Hawks website.
