ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - The Shoe Sensation is holding its second-annual American Heart Association fundraiser, and the manager of the Escanaba store hopes she beats last year’s record.

Marge Derkos said even though the company gave them a fundraising goal of $450, she’s hoping to raise $1,500, which is $300 more than the store raised last year. Right now, Derkos said her store is ranked 5th in fundraising of the more than 200 Shoe Sensation stores nationwide.

Derkos said she hopes people check out the merchandise when they come in to donate, but it’s not a requirement.

“If you have any extra change in your pockets, change in your coffee cup holders in your vehicle, come on in and drop it off for us,” Derkos said. “You do not have to make a purchase, but you can check out our store and see what’s, you know, kind of like fun. We’d love to have you take one of our hearts and put a name for who you are in memory of or maybe in honor of.”

The AHA fundraiser goes through March 31. Donations can also be made at the company’s Marquette and Ironwood locations.
