Noël Burgess - Jun 10, 2024

Juneteenth celebrations aren’t just opportunities to bring people together — they remind us that the fight for equality is far from over.

The following Juneteenth events — in Phoenix, Arizona; Portland, Oregon; and Queens, New York — all promise to be enriching, joyful ways to spend the holiday. And to help you get there, Lyft is offering discounted ride codes. Read on to learn more.

Valley of the Sun Juneteenth Celebration (Phoenix, Arizona)

June 15, 5–10 p.m. MT

Now in its 20th year, the festival will be held at historic Eastlake Park, a gathering space for African American residents back when the city was segregated. Expect entertainment from local musical and arts performers, free health screenings, educational workshops, a youth essay contest, childrenʼs activities, ethnic arts and crafts, vendors, games, and authentic soul food.

Ride Code: PHXJUNETEENTH, up to $10 off one ride, for the first 100 users to redeem. Code valid on 6/15/2024 until 11:59 p.m. PT. Valid only to and from Eastlake Park.

8 Seconds Juneteenth Rodeo (Portland, Oregon)

June 16, 3–10 p.m. PT

Founded by Portland-based photojournalist Ivan McClellan, the first Black rodeo in the Pacific Northwest returns for a second year to the Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Through presentations and interactive exhibits, the event will educate attendees about the rich cultural heritage of Black cowboys and cowgirls, who have been a significant part of American history for centuries — and introduce attendees to real-life, modern-day cowboys too. This year, guests can expect live music, roping lessons, and a mechanical bull.

Ride Code: 8SECONDSRODEO24, 50% off one ride up to $10, for the first 300 users to redeem. Code valid on 6/16/2024, 1:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. PT. Valid only to and from Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Juneteenth in Queens (Queens, New York)

June 19, 12–8 p.m. ET

Tunisia Morrison, founder of Check on Your Black Friends (COYBF), started this Juneteenth celebration in response to the increase in racial tension in the wake of the murder of George Floyd. The fourth annual iteration will take place at Roy Wilkins Park in St. Albans, New York. There will be a variety of interactive “Black-tivities”: hands-on workshops led by experts, performances by artists and musicians, and Black-owned street vendors offering everything from handmade crafts to fashion. There will also be a smorgasbord of food from the Black diaspora.

Ridecode: JTQueens24, 20% off, up to $6 off, to and from Roy Wilkins Park on 6/19/2024. Only 2 rides allowed per user on June 19, from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. ET. Valid only to and from Roy Wilkins Park.
