Malaysia reduces processing time for Social Visit Pass applications in the event of urgent work

Under the PLS@XPATS, the Immigration Department has allowed foreign professionals to apply to work for up to 30 days on the Pass in such instances, starting from their date of arrival into Malaysia.

Starting 18 July 2024, the processing charter for Social Visit Pass (PLS@XPATS) applications in Malaysia will be reduced from three working days to one working day upon submission of a completed document.

Since 3 October 2022, under the PLS@XPATS, the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) has allowed foreign professionals to apply to work for a maximum of 30 days on the Pass, in the event of emergency/critical professional work, starting from their date of arrival into Malaysia.

This only applies to the execution of urgent work in the following selected sectors:

Permitted sectors:

  • Government sector
  • Government-linked company (GLC)
  • Private sector

Categories of permitted sectors:

  • Security & defence
  • Manufacturing
  • Construction
  • Health & medical
  • Oil, gas & energy
  • Finance & banking
  • Electrical & electronics
  • Wholesale & retail
  • Tourism
  • Business services
  • Commodity
  • Education
  • Agriculture
  • Aviation
  • Information, technology & infrastructure

The processing and final decision for PLS@XPATS will be at JIM's discretion. The permission to work with a maximum of (30) days Social Visit Pass (PLS@XPATS) will be endorsed at the Immigration Entry Point, subject to the Approval Letter.
