Hong Kong and Macao residents can now use a QR Code for automated customs clearance

Users are still required to carry their valid Hong Kong / Macao identity cards when using the service.

To facilitate immigration clearance service for eligible Hong Kong residents and Macao residents, Hong Kong’s Immigration Department (ImmD), in collaboration with the Public Security Police Force, the Identification Services Bureau, the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau and the Public Security Forces Affairs Bureau of Macao, has launched the "Mutual Use of QR Code between HKSAR and Macao SAR Clearance Service" on 19 July 2024.

Under the new measure, Hong Kong residents may use the e-Channel QR Code generated by the ‘Contactless e-Channel’ mobile application for using the automated passenger clearance service in Macao SAR.

On the other hand, Macao residents may similarly use the QR code generated by ‘Macao One Account’ mobile application for using the e-channel service in Hong Kong SAR.

Hong Kong residents and Macao residents, however, are still required to carry their valid Hong Kong / Macao identity cards when using the service.

Eligibility criteria for using the “Mutual Use of QR Code between HKSAR and Macao SAR Clearance Service”

Hong Kong residents:

1. aged 11 or above;
2. holding a valid Hong Kong permanent identity card or Hong Kong identity card containing ‘*’, ‘***’ or ‘R’ symbol; and
3. successfully enrolled for using the Automated Passenger Clearance Service in the Macao SAR.

Macao residents:

1. aged 11 or above;
2. holding a valid Macao permanent identity card; and
3. successfully enrolled for using the e-Channel Service in the Hong Kong SAR.
